  2. In preparation for the upcoming convention I have looked at which parties The Office of Abraham Lincoln is likely to open a dialogue with and what concessions we are likely to make in any negotiations.

  3. Researched Lincoln's speeches/decisions leading up to 1861, and the views he/his administration had on varying factions within American society, as represented in his writing and federal legislation passed through.

  6. In preparation for the convention, I've been doing a bit of reading on the main ambitions and goals of the abolitionists, concentrating in particular on implementing anti-slavery legislation to legitimise their cause.

  7. My researched focused on anti-slavery arguments of a more political tone. By verbalising that slavery is economically inefficient, our group will subsequently argue that maintaining a 'slave nation' also has the possibility of dismantling the political power America holds on a Global level - surely a vital concern of the Lincoln group.

Found some top notch arguments - but I propose that my group should stress that 'slavery' leads to social disharmony and fractures national image.

  8. ..For the Convention I did the research component, focusing on the various historical views on the American Civil War and the Convention itself (e.g., social, economic, political) as well as the main issue of the Convention for both Southerners (mainly Virginia) and Northerners; and also included a bit of data on the Northern perspective and what Lincoln aimed to achieve.

  9. As presenters on the day, my partner Grace and I have been working with our fellow members of our group to try and put together a clear and precise presentation for the day of the convention. We have to pin-point our main arguments and contention in order to receive the best possible results on the day (even though it might be a little difficult!)

  10. As a researcher for my group i have done part of the research providing a list of useful links, and excepts from books along with diary/ letters excepts. I did some of the research on the radical abolitionists and feminist groups. Mainly focusing on the radical individuals and there perspective to help provide the basis for the argument of what we stand for and what we are willing to negotiate on and what we consider non negotiable.

  11. For preparation during week 5 and 6 for the convention I had the role of being a writer with Tayla for the radical abolitionists team. This week we received research from the other team members which Tayla and used for a starting base for our speech. To further strengthen our speech for the team Tayla and I did some further research using historical figures and events to help with our argument. This helped us find a more solid point toward our argument. Further more we communicated with the rest of team to discuss our main objectives for the convention and how and what we could negotiate with the Southerners. At times this was unclear and communication was sometimes hard and misleading which made Tayla and I uncertain of what are main objectives where based on what we were willing to negotiate, which were difficult to grasp the main themes of these. However we were successful in completing a hopefully persuading argument for the convention in week 6 but were unfortunately were unsuccessful with time where we hadn't the enough time to prepare a slideshow document as essential information was not given to us directly on time.

  12. During the convention task i met up with my co writer jacky several times in order to try and write the manifesto. There were some problems in the beginning as we felt the research and the negotiations didn't quite fit together, but we were able to come up with a cohesive argument after some independent research. We communicated with our team via the Facebook page many times in order to receive clarification.
